Escape the city centre and come to Howth on a unique and enchanting tour led by a true Dub. Explore the truly hidden corners of Howth, unseen by most. Learn all the local myths and legends, from ancient burial tombs to stories of pirate queens.
A keen and very experienced hiker Ciarán set up Howth Guided Tours to encourage people to come and see the beautiful outdoors that Howth Peninsula has to offer. Our route around Howth is designed to be fully accessible to all abilities and ages and can be shortened or lengthened to suit the group requirements. At Howth Guided Tours our goal is to give good value historical tours while having lots of fun and craic.
Howth Guided Tour
Approx: 1:30 - 2:00 (hrs)
Gradient: Flat with moderate hills
Our tour begins in Howth village, with a short walk to the entrance of Deerpark estate and onto Howth Castle. Here we explain the local history from the Viking past right up until the present day. We learn the history of the castle and we take a walk through the world renowned Rhododendron gardens with over 400 recorded species. Their beautiful seasonal colours are sure to impress.
We continue on through the enchanting forests and to a 2500 BC Megalithic Tomb known locally as Aideens grave. The climb to the top of Muck Rock will give spectacular 270 degrees views of the surrounding areas, namely the island of Irelands eye and Lambay, along with views out of Dublin city and the Wicklow mountains. Be sure to bring your camera to capture the amazing views too be seen. We continue through a fragrant heather and gorse meadow and to the popular cliff walk finishing up back at Howth Village.

The times are fixed but they can change should a group require an earlier or later time.
Are hiking boots required?
Boots can be used but are not a requirement as most of the walk is on the flat.
